In tribute to our contribution to society and our continuous support for the development of tertiary education, Mobicon has participated in the delivery of sales engineer training at the City University of Hong Kong again in 2006. We recruited a total of 9 students as sales engineer trainees and PR trainees this year. Apart from providing our trainees with on-the-job training during the intership, we also cooperate with the City University of Hong Kong to give students 3 sales engineer training workshops for a better understanding of the market and business model in Hong Kong .
“We strongly believe that both IAS and CES can help students acquire new skills, develop their potentials and build up a harmonious mentor-mentee relationship, which will make significant impact on their personal growth and career aspiration. Moreover, other learning experience through a series of sales engineer training workshops will also be a benefit to students.” Dr. Measure Hung, the Chairman, stated.

IAS Internship Feeling – Tobby Fu
Would like to express my feelings in three areas, colleagues, work and myself, for the internship programme this summer.
COLLEAGUES
I would like to use this opportunity to say thank you to my colleagues in company, Milliard, for their supports, patience and tolerance. They are my supporters and backups for me to face the challenges made by my customers.
WORK
Working as a sales engineer is tough and challenging. You will never know where you have to visit in China . Sometimes, you will not find a cab on the streets for an hour. You will never know when you can get off work since your customers are always urgent! In Milliard, we have daily meetings. It is not a strange thing that you leave office at 8p.m. since it is absolutely normal at Milliard.
However, once you get through the above processes. You will become a totally different person.
SELF
Having seen through the two-month challenges, I became more mature and considerate. In other words, I think my emotional intelligence quotient has increased a lot. At the beginning, I really want to shout at my boss and my customers for their ruddiness and numeral requests.
In conclusion, I would say the salesman training has prepared me to be mature. The negotiation skills I have learnt have prepared me to become a strategic speaker under any circumstances.

IAS Internship Feeling – Synthia Sum
During my two-month internship at Mobicon, a lot of things were encountered that could not be taught at university. It was a whole new experience for me.
I remembered that when I first came to work, I felt as if I was invisible. Not many colleagues, except for my supervisor and maybe a few others, came to greet me. No one seems to care and for the first few days, all I did was to sit in a corner at the back of the office trying so hard to familiarize myself with the company and its subsidiaries when I have no electronic knowledge whatsoever. I felt very helpless, yet this isolated feeling has slowly taught me how to adapt to a new environment or situation and to become a more independent person. At all times, one should have a desire to learn and to always keep an open mind to take in new things.
As I have gone through the first few weeks of my internship, things got better. I got a clearer idea about what I am responsible for creating the marketing booklet, “IT Outsourcing” and writing press releases. At first, I thought that the project we had to work on would be an easy task since I was an English major student studying communications and writing would not be an obstacle for me. Yet, I realized that writing promotional pieces are not like writing a narrative or descriptive essay. How the messages can be easily read and understood by the readers are the most important.
Of course, during the process of creating the marketing booklet, lots of amendments need to be made, but as it should turn out, things went well with the guidance and support from Measure, Beryl and Karen and the promotional pieces were ready for publishing.
I really want to use this opportunity to say thank you to Measure and Beryl because they have given me enough room for my creativity to roam. From the writing format to the design of the marketing booklet, I was able to have a say in it. This is such a valuable experience as I'm sure that no other employers would let an internship with no working experience work on a marketing tool that would have an effect on the brand image of the company as well as its customers' impression.
Lastly, I want to say that working at Mobicon wouldn't be the same if it weren't for my supervisor, Karen. Imagine a room filled with noisy kids running and fooling around. That's how uncontrollable we sometimes can be, but Karen tolerated us and shared with us her experience in working as a PR practitioner. How much I have learnt from her. She will definitely be missed.
All of you will not be forgotten.

IAS Internship Feeling -- Virginia Fung
In the IAS Internship, I am working as a PR assistant in Mobicon Group Limited, a listed company engaging in electronics trading service. During this 2-month internship training, I learnt a lot about the field of public relations and most importantly, attained prominent personal growth.
During the first two weeks, I am responsible for translating the Chinese Mobicon corporate news into English on the official website of Mobicon. This task is indeed a new challenge for me as I have never learnt anything about translation before. I find that the job of translation is not as easy as one thinks. It is definitely not word-by-word translation. We should first understand the meaning of the articles before translation because the expressions of English and Chinese are somehow different. My scope of vocabulary is also largely enriched by doing the translation task.
Besides the translation, my major job duty is to in charge of the publication of “Mobicon Components Source 2006 -07” as a marketing tool for Mobicon. In preparing for this booklet, I have to interview the subsidiaries of Mobicon and some assigned people within Mobicon. I find this job very challenging since I have to create interview questions and conduct interviews. Through the interviews, my communication skills are improved and I learn the tactics of setting “probing” questions to prevent the interviewees from saying something off-topic. I also get to know more about the experiences of different people in different positions in Mobicon. All these are valuable experiences for me as they provide inspiration for me about the real working situation. Most importantly, I understand the importance of perseverance and preparation through interviewing the subsidiaries of Mobicon. Since interviewing subsidiaries involve more people, finding a suitable time for conducting interviews is even more difficult than that with individuals. Sufficient preparation and early contact with the interviewees for compromising the date and time of interviews are definitely essential. Therefore, even if the interviewees turn down the scheduled interviews suddenly, we should not give up easily but try to arrange another time for the interviews.
ast but not least, I would like to offer my heartfelt “Thanks” to my supervisor, Karen, who has taught me a lot about the duties and qualities of being a professional PR. She also shares many of her precious working experiences with me. With her sincere guidance, I can adapt myself to the working environment in Mobicon easily. In addition, many thanks to Measure and Beryl for giving me such a valuable opportunity in working as an intern in Mobicon. I treasure every moment working in Mobicon and I believe the things that I learnt here will be useful for my whole life.
